Once you have a website, how do you let people know about it? SEO!
Well, you need to start thinking about that before you start adding your content. Do some Google searching using the key words you think people looking for a business like yours will use. When you start seeing your competitor’s websites popping up, note those keywords. These are the words you will need to use repeatedly throughout your website. Not only in the text, but in titles and headings.
We build websites using WordPress. And the plugin we employ is “Yoast SEO”, which helps us to optimize our search parameters. We also use “Google Analytics” so we can track our traffic. Google Analytics is a very robust tool and can actually tell you the percentage of people accessing your website from smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers.
Speaking of smartphones, Google will downgrade any website that is not responsive (Smartphone friendly). So, if you have an old website and are concerned about SEO, I strongly suggest installing a new, responsive website.
As a final step, we create Google XML sitemaps and install them using Google’s sitemaps application. These are the initial steps everyone should take to set up minimal SEO for your website. But, don’t stop there…SEO requires repeated tweaks to fine-tune the process and it also helps to keep your website fresh with new content on a regular basis.
